Coffee.

coffee, memories, drinking coffee, warmth, caffeine, habit, happiness

Coffee coffee coffee.

I kind of want to leave my post at that.

And I also think I may try to stick with one word titles this entire month.

I am AWFUL at post titles.

In general, I just don't come up with exciting ones.

Coffeeismylife.

It's not really, but this morning, with the weird time change, and wait, it's actually this afternoon, but that's not even because of the time change because it would still have been the afternoon when I'm writing this, anyway - coffee.

I live and breathe it in the mornings.

Stop And Take Pause.

mindfulness, thinking, emotions, exhaustion, writing, real, raw, amwriting, who I am

What happens when you can't think of anything to share on your blog?

What happens when you're stuck and want to submit to other publications but lacking ideas on what to share?

What happens when you think of all the great things every other day, but never find yourself at the keyboard in time to jot them down?

You stop. You take pause.

You may stop for way too long.

I just realized this morning I have not posted since almost two weeks ago.

Huh. How did that happen?

Why is it that I have taken such pause of late?

Honestly? I don't really know.

Why I Don't Make Resolutions.

It's a new year and I haven't been here in a week or so.

I'm not sure what's kept me away. It's a combination of working a bit, and trying to write and get my words out there - in other places - but I'm not really doing that, either.

I had made a small goal for the month of January where I would find myself posting about 4x a week. And that's not really happening. So - where have I been?

I don't know.

Where have you been?

What have you been up to?

Sometimes I write and start a post and then stop.

Pause.

Like my brain just has nothing left to say.

What's your goal for 2016?

Sit Down And Write, Even When You Have Nothing To Say.

I've been missing.

I have not posted in a week and I realized that just now when I went to look at my own blog. And coming off of a November full of posts? That kind of sucks.

But ...

I've been working and editing and writing and whatnot.

But ...

I've been sick with a damned cold that is making me crazy because you guys?

THE COUGH.

THE COUGH IS GOING TO DRIVE ME TO DRINK.

Or something like that.

If you can follow that you're in better shape than I am. But also? I'm sick right now so my head is a bit of a bowling ball.

That's about 22/30 if I include that extra share. I suppose I'll take it.

I'll do my best to post regularly throughout December and see what happens. Maybe it'll be a great way to maintain focus as we head into a new year? We shall see.

Happy writing and blogging and what-not, everyone.

November Goals.

I'm doing it again.

I'm jumping in feet first.

NaBloPoMo, November, blogging, writing, connecting, sharing, fitness, health, inspiration

I'm participating in NaBloPoMo again this month. I think the last time I did it was in March. And I was like - ohhhh nooooo - never again. But yes. I'm doing it.

My goal for November is to post every day.

One of my goals, anyway.

I'm in my tiny FB group and we're all encouraging one another and even if we don't get something up every day? That's okay. The goal is to WRITE again.

What's Cookin', Good Lookin'?

Hey, y'all.

I haven't written much lately. I seriously think I have a case of spring fever. Or senioritis. Although I'm not a senior anywhere. So, yeah... that wouldn't work, would it?

I'm linking up today with Jaime of love jaime for Stream Of Consciousness weekend. Click the pretty box below and you can, too! Basically it's a five minute free write - and I'm totally cheating and not counting what I've already written - so there.

Random Ramblings.

I haven't been writing all week because - well - my mom has been visiting!!

Yay, Momma!!!

Too exciting.

Unfortunately she's heading home tonight, and I'm #sadfaced.

My kiddo is likely going to be even more sadfaced than I am. Sniffle.

Saying bye to family when they leave is awful. It's not fair.

I'm still waiting on those automatic transporter things for people so we can get together whenever we want, ya know?

You know you know. I'm sure of it.

I kind of need to get in the shower and feel more awake. In the meantime I'm sipping cold coffee and doing some internet engagement stuff.

Where do you find the posts you read and share online?

Five minutes in my brain.

Stream

It's 7:45am.

It's way too early for me to be up on a Sunday.

The dogs did it.

Well, one of them.

Our older dog, who I love with my entire heart, wakes us up earlier on the regular and tends to cry like a baby when we leave him and his sister pup downstairs.

So there's no (or minimal) going back to bed anymore.

I slept in yesterday so today I came back down so my husband could get the extra rest.

I know y'all are thinking, 7:45??? Goodness, woman, that's late!

Well - not in my house. We're lucky. Or not. We're lucky because our daughter sleeps in late. Later than late if we don't wake her sometimes.

And we're not lucky because that means bedtime is late.

Oy.

Have you ever read my bedtime-related posts here? Let me tell you that there were many a nights I wanted to call Samuel L. Jackson and have him come read that Go the Eff to Sleep book. That might not be the exact name ... ehem.

It's 7:48 now.

I type kind of quickly when I free write.

Kind of just get all the words out there and breathe as I do it. Or hold my breath in until I "break" for a sec.

The dogs are in right now. And old man pup is crying. It's this whining, wheezing, almost - kind of cry. And it makes me NUTS.

And they're right behind me. I'm at my desk, on the laptop. They're RIGHT. THERE. RIGHT. THERE. And he whines. Poor guy. I know the day will come and he won't be here anymore and i'll bawl my eyes out like a baby and beyond. But for now I just wish the whining would be less frequent. Because I don't know what it's about when he's eaten and he's gone potty several times, and had water, and a cookie (biscuit). And what else? Oy.

And I just remembered I've got an Oprah Chai in my fridge.

Ahhhh. The stuff dreams are made of.

7:50.

Catch ya' later!!

Also - p.s. SCHOOL TOMORROW!!!!

Sometimes I just write.

TGIS, everyone.

Yes. Sunday.

I know. It's weird. Why would I be glad it's Sunday?

I don't know. Or maybe I do.

We did some sort of spring cleaning today. Which is perfect because we're expecting snow tomorrow. Yep. Snow. Tomorrow.

Tomorrow night, though, because that makes more sense.

Do you hear what I say?

It's the weekend and it's been a while since I've done some free writing for the blog, so I decided that today I'll be linking up with my girl Jaime of Love, Jaime.

So - here goes:

2:40pm

We just ate leftover Papa John's for lunch.

The child has been on the computer pretty much all day.

Yesterday we did a 5K and after that we were both exhausted. That gave me the right to order Papa John's for dinner AND for us to have the leftovers today. Possibly tomorrow, too.

Free writing: It's obvious I need to do this more.

I got really excited yesterday when I found out that Jaime had taken over Stream of Consciousness from Jana - it's been a while and I had no clue.

I've been doing SOC since Fadra started it forever ago and I like it. It's my kind of writing.

Sit down. Five minutes. Write.

Don't correct yourself - who doesn't, though - really?

And don't go back and edit - that I don't do, honestly. But I'm not much of an editor when it comes to my own posts. Not all that often, anyways.

So - here I am, one minute in and ready to roll.

Wednesday, July 23, 2014

Hey, y'all.

Hi, everyone.

Exciting news to share! Today is my SITS day.

Which means for those of you who already know me and love me? This is all going to be repetitive. But you should read it anyway, because maybe you'll learn something new! Or maybe you'll want to chime in and tell all of my new friends why they should love me, too, okay?

So, for those of you who are new here - I'm Andrea. This is my blog. Good Girl Gone Redneck was created in 2009 when my daughter was a little over two years old. If you do the math she's seven these days, but who wants to do math when school's out for the summer?

I'm a social worker turned SAHM turned part-time social worker. I'm also what you'd call a full-time volunteer for all the things. And yes. I do mean ALL. Most of my non-paid gigs go hand in hand with my mental health advocacy and focus. Some of them are blog related, which goes hand in hand with my social media addiction.

* Psst. You think I'm kidding - I know. I'm so totally not! *

Perspective.

Interesting word, isn't it?

Mine's changed.

My perspective.

I used to be someone who would overreact, or simply, REACT (capitals for emphasis) to certain things.

And I don't now. Not really.

I mean, sure, I have my emotions and my feelings and my anxieties. Those don't change or go away - they're a part of who I am.

But life is different now.

Sunday, July 21, 2013

Slow down? Sure. But not for five minutes.

Five minutes. Free writing. But timed.

Guess what day it is?

And ... GO!

I'm so tired this morning. The child woke up after 4AM and it was rough going for a bit. She's been dealing with some tummy issues, so I thought it was that, then she said her head hurt. Then it was her face. Then it was a nightmare? The trying to get her back to sleep was rough.

Eventually it happened. I lay beside her for a bit. It worked.

But me? Not so much. Exhausted, I went onto the iPad and putzed around. Checked Twitter and noticed how many people use things like Triberr and Tweet old post or something like that, and other apps and buffer and programs to tweet out for them while they're sleeping. It's weird. It's like there's nobody to talk to unless you want to check their links. Very off. I meant to write odd, but it's off, too.

Two minutes in.

The husband is at Caribou this AM, smartly so, and is bringing home an iced latte for me. I need coffee, stat. If I'm going to make it through the day, anyway.

Today will consist of grocery shopping and some other stff. Not sure if he's up for boating, but it might be nice to hit the water and feel the breeze.

Stuff. Not stff. Not supposed to fix typoes here. But I do. Don't tell Jana. Who would have been Hana if I didn't fix that. Ha! Or Fadra, it was her meme from the get go and her rule. I think she'd be okay with it though.

Anyway, I leave for vacation on Weds night. I get to see my college friends for a good long weekend. I could cry with the joy of it. I have not seen them in years. Ah, fun.

I'll miss my child, my husband, I'll miss a few of her camp days. But it'll be okay. Good for us all, I am guessing and hoping.

Anyone else get that pit in their stomach when they're going to fly by themselves? Or is it just me?

I think I have about a half a minute to go, so I'll stop now. Oh, also? At 4:30 AM or so? I bought a book on B&N. About slowing down the family. Stopping and smelling the roses. I read about it on Hands-Free Mama. She wrote a post about slowing down to her child's pace. Sometimes we need that reminder.

Happy Sunday, y'all!

Five minutes out of my morning.

Five minutes. Set your timers and link up with Jana this week for Stream of Consciousness Sunday today. It's easy, even easier today without a specific prompt. Or maybe harder for you, if you prefer prompts, but go for it anyway.

==========

11:20 AM

We just found a turtle in our backyard. If you're friends with me on facebook you've seen the pic of the poor thing hiding out and thinking what on earth is barking its head off at me?

It was living in our garage for about 20 mins before my husband realized that box turtles need to be returned to close to the area they were found. So he and the kiddo walked back out to the yard and put the lil turtle behind our fence. Here's hoping s/he doesn't come back and meet our pup again. Bella is a bit crazy when it comes to intruders, it seems. She's also quite the rabbit chaser. Fortunately not hunter, because I am not that sure what I'd do if she ever brought me a rabbit. AT ALL.

Yesterday we went boating for a few hours. We lucked out because it looked like rain and felt cooler, enough that we expected rain but we didn't get any. Which was good and made for a fun and relaxing ride. No swimming, though. We skipped it yesterday, which I was totally okay with.

Sometimes I wonder if I will ever have clean surfaces in my home.

11:23

It seems like an impossible attempt, even when I get something clean and clear, I wind up moving things from another area to get that area cleaned and either the stuff goes back or stays in the new spot and then what happens? Where do super clear counter people put all their stuff?

Do they just not have any? I mean, do they throw everything away? And if so? HOW? How do they do that - and can they teach me? Do they just let it all go? I need that gene. Can I buy it, I wonder?

One more minute to go. I'm headed out to dinner with some friends tonight and looking forward to it. I haven't seen this group of peeps in a while and am glad we're carving out a little bit of time.

It's funny when now and then I feel "friend-less" when it comes to people to hang out with and yet ...

11:25.

I'll finish that sentence, even if it's cheating ...

And yet, I find that I do have good batches of friends around me, anyway. Even when I often think I don't.

More on friendships and mommy friends and so forth another time.

Thanks for joining me today!

Sometimes I write.

Do you have anything for me to write about this weekend?

I've started three different posts and haven't hit my stride yet.

Then I thought that maybe I'd share some of my favorite reads from the last week or so.

Stuff that doesn't have anything to do with Kimye and baby North. Ehem. West. North West. So. Yeah.

I'll be honest, though, I started a post about Ms. Paula Deen. Really. I did.

I started to say things about how it's redonkulous that she could simply say something like, (obvs. paraphrasing here, please know that much) yes, I used the N-word and wanted to host a plantation-style wedding ... ehem. EXCUSE me? *smh* I'm not lovin' on Paula right now, my friends. I'm just not. I still have a post in drafts about how we may/may not hold celebs to higher standards and even if we do are certain things just completely 100% NOT okay, and yes, yes that is what I think. Absolutely. Certain things are just NOT OKAY.

Paula's been taking some hits this year or so. The diabetes. The whatever it was, contract or something with a pharmaceutical company. Didn't go over very well. Hmmn. I still love me some Bobby Deen, though. His show is enjoyable in that he's back in my home city AND he's wearing Simon Cowell-like t-shirts. What's not to like?

But Paula, despite her ooey gooey butter cookies being one of my faves over the years, she needs to make some sort of statement about this whole thing. Apparently she was supposed to meet with Matt Lauer but canceled. Can't blame her there. He's become skeevier and skeevier over the years. (Skeevier is not showing up as a word, but it is, okay? It just is.) But she needs to do it. And soon.

Anyway, back to your regularly non-celeb-related scheduled programming.

If you haven't heard about the amazing Climb Out of the Darkness event happening all over the country and world, you're missing something critical. I'm not doing an incredible climb of any sort, but I did so some walking with my daughter today and it truly meant something to me. She walked her baby in her old stroller. I walked beside her. We walked together. It was a far cry from so many years ago when my anxiety kept me company as I walked anywhere. Postpartum Progress is an incredible organization and has supported SO many women in need. SO many women who are facing postpartum mood disorders. And if you know me well enough or at all, you know how important this kind of support is to me. Personally AND professionally. If you should be so inclined and wish to make a small contribution supporting moms everywhere, check out my Climb Out of the Darkness donation page. * I just noticed I'm the Warrior Mom of the Day today over at Postpartum Progress! How very cool and what awesome timing for me to catch it. *

One of the most amazing posts I've read about this event was over at my girl Kim's place. Check it out at Make Mommy Go Something Something. And the beautiful and daring Susan shares an incredible video of herself and her wee one, discussing the climb. Watch it over at Learned Happiness and have your heart explode.  Sew Curly also has a pretty phenomenal post up about this event and her PPD experience, as well.

Oh my GOODNESS, y'all. I was about to go in a totally different direction just now, but then I read that Paula Deen was fired by The Food Network. WHOA. And she did issue an apology. I'll refrain from any linkage. You'll find it if you happen to click anywhere on the interwebs.

Okay, I'm sort of on a tangent here, so maybe I'll just stop for now, wish you all a great weekend and leave it at that. I kind of feel like the Climb (anyone else singing Miley Cyrus every time you read about this event? No? Just me? M'kay then!) and Paula/Kimye don't belong in the same post, but maybe it's okay for me to just open up my brain and pour it out that way because I am so totally absolutely the kind of person that tangents. UP A STORM.

Wishing you all a beautiful weekend. Happy start to summer! May the sun shine brightly, may you not sweat too much, unless, of course, you WANT to, and may you find everything you need when you go to the store. Peace out!

Colorful Moments

I haven't really written about fitness much these days.

I'm not sure exactly why. I used to do these posts on Sundays, and then I just drifted away from them.

I like writing them now and then, but having the same post on the same day every single week is just not my blogging style. Which I don't truly have, I suppose. But it's all good.

But today I want to talk some fitness, honestly.

I am finding mine, finding my way back to it, not all the way there, but I'm good and I like it.

Yesterday I did the Color Mania 5K with my daughter and some friends. We had an awesome time. Seriously. So much fun. What a colorful mess, for real. We walked it, and it didn't matter one bit. We just made our way, with the kids, and loved every second of it. The kids did, too.

** Random side note as I recognized where this post is headed ... Uhm, I just realized part of my post is going to coincide with Jana's Sunday meme... so maybe I'll link up! See below for directions ... **

Anyway, my daughter. My six-year-old. She came with me.

And she walked.

The whole thing. The entire 5K.

And she loved it. She loved the colors in our hair. The running up ahead and finding the next color. The jumping over muddy puddles wherever she could find them.

She loved it.

A few weeks ago I did the Dirty Girl Mud Run. She wanted to come with me. When I got home, she asked me why she couldn't, and I explained that you have to be 14. We'll do it together then, I told her. And I meant it. Eight years from now. I'll be 48. (Mother of holy cow!) But I plan on doing it. Damned if I don't, is my mindset. Why the hell wouldn't I be able to?

She knows her mama did a mud run. Climbed things and crawled through things and wound up wet and pretty muddy and dirty and it was all okay.

She knows we did the "race" yesterday, but nobody "won" - - we just did it. We walked and ran with friends and MOVED. And it was AWESOME.

After showering yesterday we found ourselves headed to the park to fly a new kite my husband picked up. Some time running around - *me with my phone in the car!* - and climbing and sliding and jumping at the playground. She broke a sweat. Her cheeks were flushed. She ran.

She loved it.

I was a tiny girl when I was 3. 4. 5. Maybe 6, even. When did I start to gain weight? I don't know. I do know that my 6th grade class picture shows a much chubbier me. I don't want that for my daughter. Health is first, of course, but I don't want her to see a chubby self. I don't want her to think fitness is evil and gym class is terrifying.

At the store the other day, and today, even, she found hula hoops. She showed me she tries. She does it in school. It's fun. And awesome. AND FUN.

Me? I hated my junior high school gym clothes more than anything I could ever imagine. EVER. Changing in front of those girls? Ugh. And I had friends. I didn't really have enemies. And it still sucked.

Have you ever heard of Joyce Leslie? It's a store. A clothing store. The dressing room? Communal.

What the eff?

You heard me. COMMUNAL.

Can you imagine going in there growing up? It was strange. We did it, because we just did. But still. COMMUNITY DRESSING ROOM, PEOPLE.

I flashed back to that after the mud run, actually. We walked from the car to go get changed. Walked into this big huge tent and ... ta dah! Community changing and cleaning area.

But this was different. Nobody cared. Nobody looked. And hell, if they did? I didn't give two - - uhm - - well, you get me. You know why? Because I didn't just feel like the last kid picked to play basketball. I didn't worry that running around track would give me an asthma attack even though I've never even HAD asthma. I just finished a mother effing MUD RUN. I WAS A DIRTY GIRL. I earned that. And every single one of us in that room had done just that.

So did we care who was changing where? Short of hoping not to have someone walk into the tent and right into my bare backside - nope. Not at all. Because we weren't looking. We didn't care. We just wanted out of our wet and dirty and chilly clothes and to feel ever-so-slightly clean.

Now, where was I? Oh, right. Mud Run? #lifelist entry number I don't know exactly what? Check. Done. I did it. I'm happy as a dirty girl and I did it.

* Why do I fear the kinds of searches that might bring people here with all this Dirty Girl talk? Oy. *

Anyway, back to finding fitness. Jana's prompt today is Pass it on. Stream of Consciousness Sundays is a fun weekly brain dump. It's supposed to be five minutes of typing, but I think with the subject matter I chose today, Jana will forgive me. Especially since she's Ms. Fitness herself and a kick-ass mother runner!

Part of the Pass It On prompt asks, what is something that you have passed on to your children? My hope? My dream? My prayer, even? My growing enjoyment of MOVEMENT. My love (love?!?) of fitness. My fitspiration.

I hope she feels it now and carries it with her through life.

My friend said to me at the race yesterday how she doesn't want her son learning to run in his 30s. YES. That's it. I get it. I really do. THAT IS IT. Do you get it? Sooner. They need to know and love the movement sooner. NOW. They can love it now.

I want the love I am learning to feel for running, for working out regularly and for moving my body - my whole entire body - to carry into my 6-yo's little being and stay there. Stick there forever.

That's not too much to ask, is it?

* I swear she was so much happier than she looks here! *

Sharing Moments of Motherhood.

I've never created a linky before. Not on my own. I've participated in them, but this is different.

Maybe I'll like it so much I'll do these kinds of posts frequently? And people will link up and share their own Moments of Motherhood (MOM) with me?

A girl can dream.

And I dream of one day having a space where many moms come to talk about what's on their minds.

Kinda' sorta' not exactly.

At least once in a while.

So here's my shot at just that. An intro to what I'd like to share with you about motherhood.

Or something.

Motherhood is hard. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.

We all have those AHA! moments throughout when we're saying, holy cow, we really ARE a mom. Or whoa, did I just SAY that to my kid? I'm turning into my own mom!

Whether it's the stereotypical "Because I said so!" response to our little ones (and who among us has NEVER EVER used that? - Really? Surely you jest!) or the random, "Please stop chasing the dog," Motherhood has us saying and doing the strangest things.

Will you join me today and share some of yours?

YOU KNOW YOU'RE A MOM WHEN ...

* You find yourself sneaking chocolate and eating it while hiding IN the kitchen so nobody will ask you for any.

* And sometimes you do the same thing with actual meals, because your favorite sandwich will instantly turn into what they want, even AFTER you've offered to make them one - been turned down - and then made them something totally different

* The only place you can get some peace and quiet is in your bathroom. And even that is rare.

* You've contemplated actually changing your name TO Mom. Because nobody regularly calls you anything else.

* You find yourself waking up at odd hours, finding yourself snuggled up under the covers in your kid's bed!

* You've been pawed at, snotted on, sneezed on and rubbed up against, and it's only noon.

* The last time you took a shower you stayed in there forever because you kinda' sorta fell asleep.

* You took up running - just to get some you-time!

* And lastly, you find yourself using the term "go potty" when you're out with your friends. Yes. The grown-up ones. And the kids are at home. Say wha?

If you'd like to join me (and I'd love it if you would!) please consider sharing your own post and linking up with me below. Make a momma happy and remind her (okay, yes, ME!) that she isn't alone!

Clean out your pockets, folks.

Whatcha' doin'?

I'm sitting here trying to come up with a post idea for tonight.

I had a million and one post ideas over the past week, and yet I wound up with nothing written, shared or said.

So here I am.

I will share a few random thoughts in the next few minutes and link up with Jana again as I try to do on most SUndays. Cause Jana rocks.

===================

So we went to the thrift store the other day just to look. It's a pretty big one that's local and we'd never been to. My husband was thinking maybe he would find a sports jacket or something like that - to use for dressing up a bit during the week or for work if he wanted. He'd not had good luck in looking so he figured why not, right? I took off with the kiddo and then my husband came back to where we were and ...

Pause, sorry. Texting with my brother and trying not to watch Ironman ... Robert Downey Jr, though? His voice is enough to distract me even without my looking at him. Ooops.

Anyway, not to leave you hanging, I asked the hubs what happened - did he find anything - and he said no. But then he said, yes. He had. But that he had found something in the pocket that turned him off from buying it.

I almost shrugged it off, but I kind of had to know.

A receipt, so to speak.

For what?

You might not want to know.

No, really. You probably don't.

I got the immediate heebie jeebies, and still do as I write about it here.

A receipt for a funeral. But not just a funeral. For moving or accepting a body.

WHAT?? WHAT THE WHAT??

Yeah. Thanks. That's what I was thinking, too.

Ha. Don' you find it freaky?

I know I did. I do. Still.

I told him I'd write about it. And so here I am.

So let's just say we left without buying anything.

But I definitely have a lot of stuff I could donate, because they seem to take everything there. Which is kind of cool, because I'm on a tear to clear the clutter. ANd I'm starting with ... wait for it ...

BOOKS!!

OMGAHHH! I KNOW!!!

My books are my babies! But a friend gave me some words of wisdom that I took to heart and I've already started some sorting.

Plus it was like 70-something degrees today and it was almos a spring cleaning feel. Almost. With a "t". And it felt like 80-something when I went for my run today. My couch to 5K adventure continues. And I am done with Week 2. Did Day 3 today and this week I start Week 3. Whoop! Whoop!

Anyway, that's that. Time to bring the dog and the kid up to bed. Sweet dreams, y'all!
