Stay.

* Content warning: mental health; suicide; grief; loss.

It's the holidays. It's the most wonderful time of the year.

And it's also the most difficult time of the year. For so so many people.

So I want to take a moment to speak about the *check on your strong friends* posts, AND the *please talk to me if you need someone to talk to* posts.

Mental illness knows no truths. People die by suicide because mental illness takes control and teaches us to believe the things in our head we cannot seem to question. We can't seem to fight hard enough against.

People do not die by suicide because they don't have loved ones checking on them.

They often DO.

But they just don't have the capacity to feel that is enough. They don't have the energy to keep fighting. They don't believe they deserve to.

I know these types of posts are shared with love. I've shared similar ones myself. This time, though, I remind you. Remind every single one of you.

Please stay.

Stay.

Even if you can't talk to someone in this very moment. Even if you're scared. If you don't know how to let someone help you. Try. See yourself as others see you.

Stay.

If you are in need of support, please call the national suicide and crisis lifeline at 9-8-8.

Stay.

Or text HOME to 741741 for someone to talk to without having to actually speak with your voice.

Stay.

Please let someone see you, hear you, help you.

Please.

Stay.

Passover 2024

Passover hasn't been the same for my family in years. A decade - to be exact.

This year is even more difficult. I don't host a Seder. I don't attend one. But still, I miss the ones we grew up with. The ones where my father sat at the head of the table and he and my mother maneuvered around the kitchen throughout the night - serving and plating - and welcoming.

Over the years so very many of our friends and loved ones attended Seder at my parents' home. Having a dad who could make most anything from scratch meant we never went elsewhere. A dad who cooked so well that other people bought his food for their holidays (it wasn't his store but we know who did the work!).

And though my dad did most of the cooking (minus the pot roast or chicken - cutlets or barbecue), my mom did everything else. And I do mean everything.

Not having her here to reminisce with hurts something awful this year. To laugh and cry with. To send pics of matzo balls and ask if they looked even close to my dad's.

My heart hurts and my memories help me grieve and heal, and I watch as another holiday comes and goes.

Happy Passover to those who celebrate.

May yours be blessed, may our hostages be returned home safely, and may we each witness the strength of the Jewish people as the days go on.

Zeissen Pesach.

Peanut Butter Nutella Sugar Cookies.

It's Houseful of Cookies time again!!!

And I'll admit, I'm getting this shared right under the wire, folks.

I had a different plan, was missing an ingredient, and so I decided to go with simple and delicious, with a hope that y'all enjoy these just as much as I do.

Peanut Butter Nutella Sugar Cookies

Ingredients:

1 c peanut butter*

1 c sugar

1/2 c Nutella

1 egg

splash vanilla extract (optional, but makes it better)

Optional ingredient: caramel bits

* honestly, when it comes to peanut butter I'm going to suggest you skip the health food store kind - only because I don't know how well that will do!

Steps:

Mix together the peanut butter and the sugar.

Add in the Nutella.

Toss in an egg.

Add the vanilla extract (if you want to!).

Roll into balls and bake at 350 degrees for about 13 minutes.

Check on them in case you're unsure of how well they've cooked. I put mine in for a bit longer and one or two cookies burned at the bottom. No clue why those two acted up. But it's okay, they're still edible!

Honestly, the cookies taste even better with the caramel bits. You can pop a few in while the cookies are just about to cool, which lets them melt a little and sit perfectly.

You can also try melting them and drizzling on top of the cookie - which is delicious and also something I did not have the capacity for this fine evening.

Either way, I hope you enjoy these cookies - and all the others the Houseful of Cookies participants have shared this year.

'Tis the Season.

holidays, pandemic holiday, Chanukah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, holiday season

And yet, it's not.

It's not exactly the season of all the things.

It's the season, but it's not.

It's not the same at all.

Our travel plans are halted.

Our parties are cancelled.

Our sparkly outfits stay in the closet.

But.

'Tis the season.

Still.

Because...

This shouldn't take away the joy that we feel.

This shouldn't take away the hope in our hearts.

This shouldn't take away the love.

The love.

Goodness.

It's there.

Always.

So.

Yes.

It's stressful.

Yes.

It's exhausting.

Yes.

Let's face it, y'all.

It's.

A.

Lot.

But...

The love.

The love is there.

Whether we're together or apart.

Whether we're 500 miles away.

And yes.

I choose that number specifically.

I am almost always 500 miles away from my family.

Through the most important of holidays.

The most important of anniversaries.

The most important of moments.

But.

The love.

The love is there.

Whether we're together or apart.

Whether we're 500 miles away.

The love is there.

For.

Ever.

You'll feel it, too.

I promise.

Because.

After all.

'Tis the season.

Feel All The Things.

grief, loss, emotion, mental health, therapy, sadness, crying, tears, happiness, laughter, love, memories, holidays, family

Good day, internet friends, and happy holidays.

'Tis the season for love, laughter, baking, drinking, eating, happiness! And, of course, decorating alllll the things.

But it is also the season for pain. Grief. Loss. Reminders.

And. Of course. Tears.

Allow yourself these tears.

Whether you realize it or not, you need them.

Tears are a catharsis of sorts for the body.

I'm not a doctor and I don't play one on TV, but I know that a good cry is healing for us all.

Chocolate Rolo Surprise Cookies

It's that time of year again! Time for the annual Houseful of Cookies blog hop!!

What more could you want than a list of incredible recipes for you to enjoy and make for your loved ones this holiday season?

Nothing, right? I know, me, neither.

Houseful of Cookies is an annual, virtual cookie hop, hosted by Natasha Nicholes of Houseful of Nicholes. She really likes playing on the "Houseful" theme when there is more than one of something, and since there's more than one cookie ... here we are.

Each year Natasha gathers a bunch of us together from the internet to bake up our epic cookie creations and share them with all of you. It's a fun time, and we all have dealt with butter, flour, and a number of flavors to bring you these goodies every year.

I'm going to start you off with my recipe for this year's virtual cookie hop. I'm offering up one of the simplest of recipes for y'all.

Shopping Small With Two Of My Favorite Creators

jewelry, gorgeous designs, style, fashion, exquisite designs, winter warmth, hook smart, crocheted items, shop small, small business, women owned businesses, holiday shopping

We all know what holiday shopping is like. We head to the malls and the big box stores and find ourselves exhausted and wishing we could pick up some Starbucks and head home to snuggle up on the couch and binge watch our favorite shows.

Just me?

I have been doing much of my shopping online for years. And every year I try to support small businesses, not just for Shop Small Saturday, or whatever it's actually called. But because I love supporting people as best I can - especially when they're friends!

Many of my friends have incredible talents. I'm sharing two of them with you here to help you support small businesses this holiday season.

The Perfect Holiday Saltine Toffee Treat

Hey, y'all. Here it is.

I'm participating in this year's Houseful of Cookies event.

There are some amazing sounding cookie recipes available for you. Seriously. After you check out mine you'll find a full list at the end of this post.

But don't skip mine or I'll cry. Or something.

#HousefulofCookies, Saltine Treat, cookies, holiday dessert, holiday gift, cookie crack, chocolate toffee treats, easy recipe

For this year's Houseful of Cookies I've got a recipe that's similar to what I shared last year. I'm honestly not sure which I prefer. I kind of love them both for different reasons.

And if you were around last year then you know that when it comes to holiday baking, I'm all about delicious and somewhat easy recipes. Honestly? The fewer ingredients the better - because I love keeping things simple. Like five ingredients kinda simple. [I'm including some affiliate links to these ingredients in case you want to buy them immediately!]

This recipe has been a family favorite for years and I know I'm going to have to hide them from myself for a bit or I'll find that I'm eating the entire batch.

To Be Thankful

thankful, grateful, happy, loved, family, Thanksgiving, emotions, sharing, connections, friendship

To be thankful does not mean that you have not experienced loss.

It does not mean you have not experienced pain.

It does not mean that you had the best day of ever.

To be thankful does not mean that you spent today with your loved ones.

It does not mean that all of your wishes have come true.

It does not mean you have it all figured out.

But to be thankful CAN mean small things.

6 Nonfiction Books For That Friend Who Has Everything

reading, amreading, books as gifts, gift ideas, nonfiction recommendations, nonfiction, memoirs, biographies

I'm all about a new book every month.

Honestly? I'm probably about way more than a new book every month. I buy books before I have a chance to finish the one I started before it. I'm a book addict. I'm a self-proclaimed bibliophile.

I'll admit it - I don't always read nonfiction. But these have caught my eye, whether it's the title that interests me, or the author, I think they'll be great reads.

So, whether you're shopping for yourself (because let's face it, this time of the year we all do, don't we?), or trying to buy your friend who has everything and needs nothing, here's a list of recommendations for you.

Reminder - there are affiliate links throughout this post to facilitate your shopping experience.

8 Gift Ideas For Your Favorite Bibliophile

books, gift guide, reading, holiday shopping, what to buy a reader, reader, bibliophile

Yes, I know. Thanksgiving isn't even here yet. How could I possibly?

Well, I'm not the kind of person who normally jumps ahead and discusses what you should do or buy for the holidays, but this year I'm getting it in early, so y'all can go on and pick a few for me - you're welcome!

But seriously, we all know that Black Friday is the day everyone looks for deals online - and - if you're really brave? In the actual STORES. omg, who are you people?

And so - for that purpose - I'm giving you a few ideas to get your friends who, like me, love to read and would love anything reading-related as a surprise gift from Santa or Chanukah Harry under the tree (yes, I know there are other gift-giving holidays, I happen to celebrate these two with my family).

All links go to Amazon and are affiliate links. Thanks for using them to shop so I can save my pennies towards buying myself a few of these fun presents.

A Thanksgiving Ramble

thankful, family, memories, holidays, moments, emotions, full heart

It's a Thankful Thursdays post on a Wednesday night. But still. It's gonna be live all day tomorrow because I won't be posting right away, so - let's just go with it - shall we?

Now ... before I get thankful ... let me ramble a bit.

I fell off the NaBloPoMo wagon.

To be honest, I'm not sure how on it I ever actually was. But I tried.

I was slightly motivated, and regrouping w. my blogging friends DID help me remember to write more. But I fell off and haven't really written in a few days.

I started a few posts and did nothing w. them.

Sigh.

I donno what happened, exactly. I just dropped off.

The Starbucks Cup Debacle.

So - if you're on social media at all you already know that Starbucks has changed their cups to be a solid red from a seasonally decorated cup - and people are going crazy.

I mean, crazy. As if someone took the joy out of Christmas, and it's only early November.

Starbucks, Christmas, holidays, coffee, cheers, #ineedallthecaffeine, red cups,

People, Starbucks has had red cups for years, right?

Right.

No Fuss Pumpkin-fest Party!

We love Halloween in our house. In fact, it's my favorite holiday. Plain and simple - pumpkins make me happy. They're fun to look at, fun to decorate with and - yes - fun to carve.

I had the amazing opportunity to work with Mr. Clean this October to host a Pumpkin Palooza party for our friends - and to have a little pumpkin fun ourselves while we were at it.

I decided before it was party time that my daughter and I would take a stab (pun intended!) at a few pumpkins on our own to see how they turned out - and to see how well Mr. Clean's Concentrated Multi-Surface Cleaner worked.

I spent some time using Mr. Clean around the house - but the real test would be how well the product worked post pumpkin mess and massacre.
