The more things change

This summer is the first summer.

This summer is the last summer.

Her first summer of camp. Camps.

My random musings post made mention of her attending farm camp.

She loved it. We weren't so sure.

It's hot here in North Carolina. Freaking hot.

Next year we'll skip the outdoor camp-type things.

We'll stick with where she is now.

Indoors.

Inside.

Museum camp is lots of fun.

She's inside.

She's outside. SOMETIMES.

But mostly inside. Which is good. Very good.

And it's structured.

It's what my beautiful little girl needs.

Because while this is her first summer of camps this is her last summer before school starts.

She starts Kindergarten in August and it blows my mind.

How is it possible?

Where is my little girl?

She's still there, I know.

Underneath all that sass.

Behind the braids and the funky sneakers.

She's there. Staring back at me. As I watch her continue to grow.

I can't believe it.

I can barely breathe.

It happened in a blink.

Where she was, is, went, goes.

It's all different.

It's all the same.

It's both.

And it will continue to be.

For that is what motherhood is.

Watching, waiting, holding your breath.

As your little ones take flight.

And you can only hope you've taught them how to appropriately use their wings.

  1. It's bittersweet watching them test their wings, that's for sure. Thankfully you have a lot of nest time left with that little sassy miss. :)

  5. Oh that letting go, that watching them fly instead of being in it with them. Le sigh - so very bittersweet! xo

  7. They grow so fast and good for her to have practice being away before Kindergarten!

Mine were in tennis camp last week...outside the whole time but they were really good about making them take ten minute breaks at the top of every hour. My kids loved it!

  8. It's the hardest thing to do, letting them go. I struggle with it every day!! My little guy doesn't stand a chance - I'll have a vice grip on that boy until he's 18! :)
