Check out Invisalign

Have you heard of Invisalign yet?

I have heard so many great things about them, and honestly, I'm pretty shocked. It's really amazing what changes have occurred over time to allow people (teens! Especially teens!) to have a more "modern" choice when they make the decision to move forward with straightening their teeth.

Although I didn't have braces growing up, many of my friends did. I can remember the struggles with those metal wires, random things snapping and popping, the numerous appointments to keep their mouths in tip-top shape.

They'd plan their meals around what they could and couldn't eat, struggle with painful moments inflicted on them BY their braces, and often find themselves embarrassed by the way that their smiles looked. And forget about kissing! The horrors!

If you compare Invisalign to metal braces, you'll find many favorable changes. First and foremost? They're invisible! So teens are way more comfortable when they step out with their "new" look.

The Invisalign system uses a series of clear aligners made of a lightweight plastic that sit smoothly on the teeth allowing for a comfortable fit. Even cooler? These aligners can be removed! So those wearing them can eat whatever they want at pretty much any given time, they can brush and floss their own teeth without worrying about any interference, and they'll work as effectively as the old-school braces would have.

They even have a specific line, geared towards those teens I mentioned earlier. Invisalign Teen.

Invisalign aligners are custom-made for the individual wearing them. The aligners will gradually shift your teeth into place, and another amazing change from metal braces is that you'll SEE the difference as it happens! No more waiting until your orthodontist takes your braces off for you, only to find that you need them back on or you're not *quite* done yet.

I can't tell you the number of times my friends would return from appointments, crushed to find out that they had to wait a few more months until their wires could come off for good. I'm sure they would have opted for a simpler and less painful solution like Invisalign if they could have. And believe me, I'm keeping it in mind should my own daughter end up needing any adjustments. In the meantime we're still waiting for her to lose her first tooth!

  1. I am totally tempted to do Invisalign for myself! I had braces and retainers and still my teeth are not straight! Definitely a good option for my girls, too! :) Great post!-Ashley

  2. I had metal braces as a kid for 5 horrendous years. i never knew i had to wear my retainer for the rest of my life to prevent shifting. It happens as we age and because of my chronic illness, i am starting to lose gum tissue since I can't floss well. Enter the need for Invisalign. i have been happy with results and they are so much easier to take care of. The trays are great and I am amazed how they work. I wish my kids could do it but with them losing/getting new teeth in I think they are stuck with metal braces. its been a lifesaver for me though needing them again as an adult. how lucky are you not to need braces?!? my kids are doomed, hubby and i both had awful teeth growing up. thank goodness for braces!

  5. I've been thinking of getting Invisaligne, too! My teeth are straight (I had braces for 4 years as a kid) but over the past 5 or 6 years there has been a space opening up between my top two teeth. I hate it! It seems like the perfect thing for adults!! --Lisa
