2014: Thanksgiving at our house

I'm thankful for so many things. Mostly today I'm thankful for Thanksgiving at my own home. With my daughter and my husband.

Thankful for Thanksgiving Eve. Long gone the nights of partying all over the place. Drinking til the late night/early morning hours. Thankful for snuggles on the couch with my 7-year-old.

Thankful for waking up in my own bed.

For being woken by the child who was ready to crawl in with me.

Thankful for my husband coming upstairs to join us and immediately instructing me to make an Amazon purchase of a new memory card for my phone. Stat.

Thankful for his smoking the turkey outside. In the rain. So the oven was free all day.

Thankful for crockpot macaroni and cheese. That my daughter "made" for us for dinner.

Thankful for an only slightly over-full belly. I tried not to overdo it. I didn't even really have seconds except a few bites of stuffing. Stove Top, natch.

I'm thankful for Oreo Turkey cookies like the ones I mentioned over at SITS last week. The ones we made and I cracked up over. And my kiddo could create on her own for a while while we grown-ups did some cooking.

create cookies, kid's cookie craft, turkey cookies with candy corn

Or drinking.

What? You don't like wine more than whine?

Angel Food Cupcake Wine, cheers

I'll be honest, I ended up tossing a large splash of it out. That's because I threw a small fit over burning the pecans on my pecan pumpkin pie-cake. Sigh.

I recovered and saved it by pulling off some overdone pecans. And it was yummy - honestly - surprisingly delicious - but I was too full and after eating a few bites I thought I'd explode so I stopped. Because - too much food - honestly. Even when you don't overdo it to the extreme, your plate is likely filled with way too many things. And carbs. Oh, good LAWD the carbs. Like mac-n-cheese, and sweet potato casserole with marshmallows, and Stove Top, and biscuits (thanks, Pillsbury) and veggies (thank goodness for veggies) and gravy - oh, the gravy. And your belly winds up fuller than is normal and therefore you. Are. FULL.

But look - amazingly yum - right?

pecans, pumpkin, pie, cake, dessert, baking

Mostly I'm thankful for another holiday. And family. And friends. And a heart that's full.

And the sound of my daughter laughing, even when sometimes it's all so loud. I'm still thankful.

And you - my friends - you. I'm thankful for you.

Happy Thanksgiving. I hope your hearts and bellies are both full tonight!

  1. My husband loves his mother's stuffing; it's meaty and moist. Personally, I prefer StoveTop! :) shhhhhh
