Aggression cookies for your kids!

So a week or so ago my kiddo picked up a book of mine that I hadn't cracked open in a while. She seemed too old for many of the activities, but then she brought it over to me and I knew I could come up with something for her to do.

A day or so later we wound up with her making what the book calls something like Aggression Cookies. I forget exactly whether that is what they're called, but the point was that the dry and wet ingredients mushed together make for a lot of fun for a 5-year-old child. Lots of mess and lots of fun and honestly? Lots of yum, too!

Tweaked from The Preschooler's Busy Book:

3 c quick cooking oats
1-1/2 c brown sugar
1-1/2 c flour
1-1/2 c butter or margarine
1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder

Combine all ingredients and let your child go to town. Depending on his/her age, you can allow them to do all aspects of measuring and combining. For me, I did a bit of the measuring just to be sure my entire kitchen floor wasn't covered. But the rest she did on her own.

Measuring Oatmeal

One of the coolest things is telling her she can stick her hands into the mixture and just go with it. She was definitely happy with that. As was I, once I tired her hair back and out of the way!

Mixing it dry

Mixing it wet (and mushy!)

She turned them into little balls and we baked at 350* for about 10 minutes or so - checking them at 8, then 10 and  every minute after as needed until you find them ready.

Tah dah!

And she did them all by herself - minus the in and out of the oven - of course!

Honestly, I think I ate most of them. So unless you want a ton of cookies hanging around for yourself, be prepared to hand some off to friends and family. Neighbors, even. They're really good, and a sweeter than regular oatmeal cookie - must be the brown sugar.

Enjoy!

I found you via the SITS Spring Fling and thought I *have* to check out your blog because I'm also an Andrea who's gone from big city girl (Toronto) to rural-suburbia (like, cows and all). You can find me at www.mommygearest.com and @MommyGearest. Nice to "meet" you!

  7. I'm going to have my kids make these this week on early release day. I'm giving them each their own batch and packages to make for the neighbors. We've been here almost a year and only know 3 of them. May even double down. Thanks!
Found you at the SITS Girls Spring Fling and so glad I did!!!
    Have a great week!
