Friday Free Write: Good Eats

free write, writing, amwriting, good eats, great food, Durham, NC, southern living, southern comfort food

So. I know. It's another Friday. In case you haven't noticed, I've been working pretty hard around here. I finally got my new header live. I'm excited about this. I love it. It's got the look and feel I've wanted to have over on my site for a while. A lonnnnng while.

Unfortunately, the template/format isn't exactly the way I wanted, but I worked on it for a hot minute the other morning and pulled something together. It's not perfect, but it's going to be. Whenever I find my way back to perfection, or something.

Anyway, today's post is a free write about some good eats. Including pictures.

I was lucky enough to have two delicious meals out this week with friends. And I took pictures, as one does. Not enough of my first meal - because the appetizer was a dream come true - but last night's meal? Yeah. And yes, you can find the pictures on Instagram, of course.

But I'm in the mood to talk quality food, so you'll see some here, too.

Last night I went to dinner with Kate of Life of a Ginger and Jennifer of JAB's Plethora.

We ate at Dame's Chicken and Waffles in Downtown Durham. And people? It was sooooo good. And, as always, a great time with these girls.

I had a sweet potato waffle with maple-pecan shmear, a chicken cutlet and their whiskey creme drizzle. omg. I actually told the waiter I would marry that shmear if I could. So. Yeah.

And the macaroni and cheese side? To die for.

It had the flavors of Thanksgiving stuffing. Sage, maybe? Let's just say it was Stove Top x a million. Way more glorious.

And then earlier in the week I went to dinner with a friend who was in town for work. We went over to Bleu Olive Mediterranean Bistro, also in Durham.

I had a fairly simple salad for dinner, so no pictures were taken. Don't get me wrong, it was delicious. I just didn't anticipate writing about it or anything. But the appetizer and the desserts? Glorious.

We did the Tasting of Spreads appetizer, which included hummus, baba ghanoush, and tsatsiki - all of which I'm familiar. AND it included a fourth spread, called tirokafteri. I had never heard of this, and actually described it incorrectly yesterday to a friend. It's a fiery red pepper and feta dip. With a touch of basil. I thought it was tomato or something. Either way? Delicious.

And lastly, dessert. Let me just show you.

Gelato.

And pot de crème.

Glorious glorious pot de crème.

And there you have it. My not-so-free-write this Friday.

The words, certainly, but y'all know I had to tweak those pictures just a little bit.

It's amazing how blogging takes on a life of its own, even when you think you're just gonna sit yourself down and write.

So - where have you been eating lately, friends? Anywhere interesting that I should check out whenever I may be in your neck of the woods? Or anything exciting and delicious that you want to share? Let me know. It is Free Write Friday after all. Join me if you're feeling up to it.

Have a great week, y'all! See you next time.

* Please note, in case anyone is suspect - none of these meals were sponsored in any way. I just wanted to share the yummiliciousness with all of y'all. You guys know I keep it real here and if I am sponsored I always disclose that. So don't go playin'. *
