100 Books You Should Read in This Lifetime

books, fiction, goodreads, lists, nonfiction, reading, best books of all time, 100 books

If you're new here you may not know about my reading addiction.

Or maybe you knew and that's why you're here.

Either way, I'm glad you came by. I've decided to look back over my years of blogging and book reviewing and share some of my favorite reads with you.

As always, links will be affiliate links - meaning if you use them to shop I'll make a few pennies towards my next book purchases!

Let's consider it a list of must-reads for the ages. Or, you know, some ideas you might find worth considering, depending on your reading style. Keep reading...

6 Books To Recommend To Your Newly Separated Friend

nonfiction, divorce, separation, reading, important reads, divorce support, divorce resources, single parent, coparenting

Listen, y'all know I'm all about the books.

And I've been so extremely quiet lately, just sort of consumed by my own thoughts and stuck in my own head - so I thought I'd take a few minutes and share this post that might help you or someone you know.

Whether your friend is separated or on the road to divorce, there are so many books out there that they might find to be helpful.

There are others that just look like they'd be a bunch of nonsense.

So, how to decide what to read?

Maybe you're thinking - she's not going to want to read a danged book! She's hurt. Grieving, even. In a lot of emotional turmoil/upheaval/pain.

But trust me. Sometimes she's not really sure who to talk to and how to organize her thoughts. And so her best friend for a short period of time will likely be her favorite new journal, and a really good and understanding book.

The Best Fiction Books of 2017

reading, books, goodreads, fiction, novels, 2017 books, I recommend, favorite books, amreading,

This was not a big year for me when it comes to the total of books I read.

I normally try to set a goal of 100. I've been close once or twice over the years. I started my list-keeping in 2010.

This page isn't promoted on the front of my blog anymore because I rarely update it throughout the year, but if you'd like to see the titles of the books I've read from 2010-2017? You can find them here:

READING WITH REDNECK

But in more recent years I have started documenting my favorite reads of each year, and so, this year - despite my falling short of even 40 titles - will be no exception. This list includes my favorite reads of the past year, but they're not in any actual order of expressed love. You can't go wrong, whichever you choose.

The Perfect Winter Reads

fiction, new releases, reading, amreading, goodreads, reading recommendations, authors, what to read, winter reads

If you haven't yet realized, I'm a big reader.

I know that I've already introduced you to four books you need to pre-order for the new year.

Three of those four will get you through part of January, and the other one will pop up in April.

But January/February are intense winter months. Even March comes in like a lion sometimes - right?

So - here are a few more books you should add to your Goodreads to-read shelves.

And, as always, my links are set up as direct links to Amazon. I'm an affiliate - which means I make a few cents for each item you purchase. So I thank you in advance for your support!

And yes, it's another list post with a straight line to Amazon. If you use my links and do any of your shopping through them I'll make a few pennies and use them to buy all the books. So. Thanks.

My daughter is currently in fifth grade.

Six Valuable Nonfiction Reads

This is not my typical book list post. I haven't been writing very much. October seems to be that kind of month for me. I looked at my posts from last October and there were about a handful. It might be why I branch off into NaBloPoMo in November. That's National Blog Posting Month for those of you not in the know. Where I try to post every single day for 30 days. It's fun. I enjoy it. But I'm not there right now.

* Are you interested or planning on participating? I have a very small and non-stressful FB group you should take a look at. Come on over. Write with me. *

So, instead, I've pulled together a list of recent nonfiction reads that I think are worth taking a look at. I have not yet read any of them, but each one has been in my virtual shopping cart at least once since it's been released. And that is why I consider them valuable. Because they're books that get people talking. Books that remind us that there is so much going on around us, and also help us take a look within ourselves as we look outside at the very same time.

Must Reads: Psychological Thrillers

These books will keep you on the edge of your seat and have you flipping through pages unable to go to sleep until you know what happens.

It's a seemingly new genre, one that takes over the more generic mystery read. One that gets into your brain a bit more. Maybe keeps you awake at night for long after you've finished reading.

As always there are affiliate links in this post that support Good Girl Gone Redneck's reading addiction. And yes, I did just use my blog name as if speaking about another person.

Friday Free Write: What I've Been Reading

reading, writing, fiction, nonfiction, book recommendations, what to read, find yourself, writing freely

You know how last week I said that book posts were impossible to write? This one isn't horrible. It's me just telling you what I've been reading.

I've been on a reading tear, mostly because my emotions are shot to hell and because I'm looking to escape.

There. I said it. I'm being 100% honest with you.

And so. Happy Friday to y'all. Let's talk books for a minute or two.

Disclaimer: Please note, as always, any links to Amazon copies of these books are affiliate links. If you use them to purchase these (or any other) books I'll earn a few pennies towards my next reads. So thanks for supporting my addiction!

10 Authors of Color To Add To Your Library

books, reading, authors of color, reading recommendations, book suggestions

As I have pulled together my book lists for my site, I've noticed that a majority of the books I read have been written by white women. And so, over the last year or so I've made an effort to pay more attention to the authors I'm supporting.

I've started including more books by men in my lists of recommendations. Granted, it's still quite unbalanced. But I'm working on that.

And I have also paid more attention to the authors I'm reading because I noticed that I was lacking a variety of books written by men and women of color. So I've been adding books to my shelves and my Kindle to support writers of color and to engage in reading the stories they create, along with the history they incorporate into their work.

Below you will find a list of ten books by authors of color. If you notice, like I did, that you're reading books by white women all the time and want to make a change? Start here.

As always, affiliate links are placed throughout this post so you can order these titles very easily. Any purchases made support Good Girl Gone Redneck and are greatly appreciated.

11 Inspirational Books and Journals

books, journals, inspiration, motivation, self-help, self-care, love yourself,

There's a lot happening these days that might lead you right into a good book or a binge-watch of your favorite new television or Netflix show.

But sometimes we need more. We need more than a cathartic cry with Code Black or This Is Us. We need more than a cringe and a laugh with Superstore. We need more.

And so, we turn to a certain kind of book that will take us where we need to go. A book that inspires us and motivates us and gets us thinking.

Below you'll find a list of recommendations for that kind of book. Some come directly from me. Some come from some of my reader friends who are in my reading Facebook group, I Like Big Books (come join us!).

The Best Books I Read This Year

fiction, reading, goodreads, books, book recommendations, authors, Kindle,

This year was filled with amazing new releases, debut authors, and fantastic finds at every bookstore and library, every Kindle and Nook, every person you spoke to had their nose in some amazing book and they couldn't wait to tell you about it.

Consider this just that. Except I'm telling you about more than one - because I can't just pick one book for the entire year - that would be nonsense!

6 Nonfiction Books For That Friend Who Has Everything

reading, amreading, books as gifts, gift ideas, nonfiction recommendations, nonfiction, memoirs, biographies

I'm all about a new book every month.

Honestly? I'm probably about way more than a new book every month. I buy books before I have a chance to finish the one I started before it. I'm a book addict. I'm a self-proclaimed bibliophile.

I'll admit it - I don't always read nonfiction. But these have caught my eye, whether it's the title that interests me, or the author, I think they'll be great reads.

So, whether you're shopping for yourself (because let's face it, this time of the year we all do, don't we?), or trying to buy your friend who has everything and needs nothing, here's a list of recommendations for you.

Reminder - there are affiliate links throughout this post to facilitate your shopping experience.
