Weak at the Knees, Jo Kessel ~ book review

* I was provided with a copy of this book to facilitate my review. All expressed opinions are strictly my own. *

I wasn't sure what to expect from Weak at the Knees. The title itself indicates some steaminess. But are we sure? Or do we hope?

I'm not a huge fan of super smutty novels. I mean, I like the occasional erotica read, for sure, but if it's an actual BOOK it has to have content. Steam + story gets me invested and has me enjoy the steam a bit more. Makes it make sense, if you get me.

Anyway - let's step off that topic for a few seconds.

This book is about Danni. When we meet Danni's she is kind of scattered. Her life is unexceptional. Seriously. Nothing seems to excite her. Not her boyfriend. Not sex. Not her day-to-day. Nada.

I like Danni. She's only twenty-six, so it feels like she has so much ahead of her. So much she could do. I kind of want her to get out there. Live more. I definitely felt sad for her when I read the early chapters about her relationship. Living with a boyfriend and questioning what it was all about. How many women have been there-done that? SO many, for sure. I wanted to live vicariously through Danni and her choices.

Travel the world! DO something!

And then something happens in Danni's world and she does. She DOES SOMETHING. She steps out of her comfort zone. She walks away from pretty much everything in this life that she knows and moves into a random situation. She even lies to get herself into it, but she knows she must. WE know she must.

It's exciting. It's new. It's even steamy. A good steamy. One I, as a reader, believed as it happened. Chemistry is a huge part of this story. Even when we feel like Danni's doing wrong. Or being a hypocrite. Or breaking a promise. Breaking a trust.

We watch as Danni has her heart broken, as she convinces herself it is her own fault, and as she decides what to do next. We wish for her, hope for her, love her, loathe her. We are her. But we're not. But we could be. Or could have been.

I'm rambling. I don't want to tell you what happens. I want you to meet Danni and decide for yourself. I want you to become invested in her life like I was.

I liked this book a lot, even if I did feel that the ending was sort of wrapped up in a pretty little bow for us. I don't know what else I expected could happen, but that was the only thing I questioned after I walked away from the book. I'm still digesting it, so perhaps by the time I publish this I'll have changed my mind.

In the meantime, this one's worth a read. It'd be a perfect beach read, but who knows what the weather's like where you are!?! So if you're traveling, download a copy and take it with you. OR ... enter my giveaway today for a free copy!

Or carve some time at night between getting the kids to bed and shutting your own eyes. Sneak off with Danni and see what you think of her and her new friends. And some of her old ones. It's worth the trip!

  2. Last book I finished was Catching Fire in the Hunger Games series and I have about 50 pages until I finish Mockingjay. I also finished One Year to an Organized Life which was very helpful.
