The Cottage at Glass Beach ~ Book review

fiction, reading, amreading, review, book

I am a sucker for a beach related read. Not necessarily a beach read, but a story set near or on the water? The sand. The blue sky. The blue-ish white rimmed waves lapping up on the shore.

I'm in.

And the cover of The Cottage at Glass Beach brought me all of that. I knew from the minute I saw it that it would be something I'd enjoy reading.

What I didn't know was just how much!

Now, I won't give you too much detail, so as to ensure you pick up a copy for yourself. But I will say that the characters, the community, the environment and the beauty of the beach - all combine together to make for one beautiful story.

Our main character is Nora. Nora is a mother of two young girls, each with their distinct personality and way of viewing the world.

Annie and Ella are amazing.

I adore these kids. They remind me of versions of my own daughter. I suppose I could totally see some of my future. Yikes. Maybe that's not such a good thing. Ah, well. Adventurous. Emotional. Excited. Energetic. Frustrating. Powerful. Sensitive.

Yeah. I'm good with it. All of it!

Nora has returned to the beach to find herself. After emotional upheaval she is in need of some solitude. Some family time. Some grounding.

She finds it. And more. The girls are with her. They struggle, battle, soothe one another as best they can. They go through mystical experiences that honestly aren't expected but are somehow easily slipped into the book and the story of these characters and you buy them. At least I did.

The history. The emotion. The family. The connections. It's all there.

All there making this a book I definitely recommend. I hope you pick up a copy. And enjoy.

  6. Hi Andrea- I got your message. It's all good! I actually skimmed your review and I hardly ever read the book's jacket- I go by the cover so it's my own fault. But it happens! You can't love every book and I definitely don't :)
