World's Greatest BFF Contest!

FriendsYouLove

A BFF is someone who has been there for you at all times and will listen to what ever you have to say. They will call you just to see how you are, but that's if they're not with you at the moment. Usually, a BFF is someone you've known most of your life and have been through a lot with them.

Every little girl loves their BFF. She wants to play with her every day, practically lives over at her house, and vice versa, and considers her parents her "second mom and dad" - - remember those days?

Teenage BFFs have much more angst. Make-up and boyfriends. I like the same guy you do. He likes someone else. Or worse, he likes you! Make ups (not the cosmetic kind) and break ups, who gets better grades, who has the better job. Can you stick together, despite the changes that your teen years bring?

Move on to college. If you were as lucky as I was, you actually went to the same school AS your best friend. Even luckier for me, we were ROOMMATES! Gasp, I know! And you know what? We survived. It's amazing, but we lived together for four whole years, pulled all-nighters, I pledged a sorority, she didn't, she had her HS boyfriend, I had none. She worked on campus, I tried. We sat outside our dorm room with typewriters (yes, I'm old) and cans of Diet Coke. She watched me leave for formals, helped me do my hair and make-up, took my picture. We mixed drinks - oh, come on - you know you did, too, pulled on our bodysuits and jeans, and walked out the door, heads held high.

And you know what? We survived those four years by leaning on one another. We stayed close knit, watched each other get our first real jobs, supported one another, found time to hang out, party, drink, eat, laugh, cry. I moved into the city, she came over when she could. My life changed as I had my first real boyfriend. My heart broke - twice. She helped me pick up the pieces. We held strong.

Moving forward we had no idea what the future would bring. She stood up for me at my wedding. I stood up for her at hers. She supported me as I moved away, we spoke on the phone often. Still do. She met my daughter on our first real visit home to NY. Her mom and sister came by, too. I finally met her baby boy last month. He's 8 months old, and cute as cute can be. He looks just like her. Too precious.

A best friend stands strong beside you, no matter what you need. A best friend recognizes the strains that life and love bring you, family pains, loss and heartache. A best friend supports you through it all. And for that, I honor my own best friend as I introduce you to this BFF contest!

We all know who she is. She is the person you can say anything to and in turn, she can say anything to you. To some she is your sister, to others, your mom. She could be a girl you grew up with or a woman you grew close to in college or even after, but we all have one. We all believe that ours is the best.

  2. This is such a sweet sweet post. My BF moved to Regina (Canada) for RCMP training and I miss her terribly. I turn 30 on Saturday and it is going to suck that she's not here to help me drown my sorrow in cold beer. I'm going to go cry now...kidding. I do miss her!
