Still reading ...

Like a fiend!

My latest reads are:

* Comfort Food, by Kate Jacobs

* Mothers Who Think: Tales of Real Life Parenthood

* Dakota Born, by Debbie Macomber

* Dakota Home, by Debbie Macomber

* The Manning Sisters, by Debbie Macomber

* Julie and Julia, by Julie Powell

* Without A Backward Glance, by Kate Veitch

* Sarah's Key, by Tatiana de Rosnay

* I'll Have Who She's Having, by Liz Fenton, Lisa Steinke

* The Next Thing On My List, by Jill Smolinski

Another tear, I know. Weird, but I guess now that my daughter enjoys playing by herself while I sit on the couch, it gives me some time during the day to read a little bit. Or if we're outside and playing together, and she runs off to the sandbox (it's not like I can really fit in there with her!) that gives me some time to sit and watch her, while reading some more.

I have enjoyed some of these books enough to write a special post about them, whereas others have been good reads, and others just so-so.

I literally JUST finished Comfort Food this afternoon, and I did enjoy it. I wonder if she'll be writing a sequel, as she did for Friday Night Knitting Club. It was a light story, with some strong relationships. Nothing overly spectacular, but a good summer read. I did really enjoy Without a Backwards Glance, but that was a bit of a heavy read for the summer, in my opinion. It was an intense story with powerful characters and a lot happening in their lives, most especially in their history, which we learned about moving forward as they reconnect with their mother who left them on Christmas Eve when they were small children. Sound heavy? Trust me, it is. Not nearly as heavy as Sarah's Key, which was so powerful it moved me to tears in some parts, and moved me to remember my own family who lived through those tough times, so many years ago.

I also really enjoyed reading The Next Thing On My List, and often think that it'd be fun to create my own list of things I want to do in my life. I know I've kept many an unfinished journal with ideas of things I'd love to do, but a true list, now that would be something. We'll see if I can get one started, and I'll share that journey with all of you.

And on that note, I'm off to check on dinner. Hope you all get some reading time in today, whether it be online, or in a corner somewhere with a great book! Enjoy! And Happy Reading!

  1. Ooooo--a good reading list. :) I would die if it really was MKA that commented on my blog. It would be the absolute coolest thing to happen to me all week. :)
